Retro Blue Jays – Montreal, 8mm Style

March 26, 2015

Posted by Jared Allen.

It’s fitting the Blue Jays will travel to Montreal next week for the final portion of the spring training schedule. Last year’s visit to the Olympic Stadium was a huge success.

Speaking of which…

2014 can’t be considered retro, but the technology used in this 27-minute clip certainly is.

The videographer recorded the March 28, 2014 pre-season contest between the Jays and the New York Mets at the Big O with an 8mm camera. The final product is a lovely combination of contemporary life with old school technology.

Mr. Allen had a perfect POV and captured so much; from travelling to the stadium to the Jays celebrating a walkoff victory. There’s a lot to take in, but it’s worth spending the time. There’s even a clip featuring everyone’s favourite mid-game activity, the wave [sarcasm].

I doubt 8mm cameras will make a comeback and become a trend, but it certainly wouldn’t hurt having more videos like this.

Re. Marcus Stroman

I’m still in shock.

I don’t need to tell you how awful the news was. I don’t need to tell you about the ramifications. I don’t need to tell you how Stro’s injury affects everyone and everything.

So, there’s options: Norris, Sanchez, Estrada, Albers, Francis (eek), Santana (yikes).

I’d pick Norris and Sanchez for the final two spots. Good potential and looked good last season. I had Sanchez pegged for the bullpen; even got into a Twitter debate about that on Sunday. But things have changed and possibly, so has Sanchez’s role with the team.

Of course, there’s always the possibility of a trade. That would be helpful for Dioner Navarro. But I doubt a trade will take place.

So…take a deep breath. These are the cards that have been dealt to the Jays. Unfortunately, they will have to play without their most promising starter.

DNJT Returns April 2nd

March 3, 2015

Start spreading the news! Definitely Not JaysTalk will return for a fourth season on Thursday, April 2! I ‘m calling it the Alfredo Griffin/Manny Lee/Craig Grebeck/Kyle Drabek season.

The program will stay as is. You can expect the usual cast of characters and some new ones too. There will also be one subtle change:

Up till now, I’ve post-dated episodes for Thursdays at 12:01am. This season, I’m planning on releasing episodes on Thursdays at 7am. Figure it will be better from a traffic standpoint. So if you have enjoyed staying up late, waiting for a new episode after midnight, I’m sorry. But at least you can include a new episode as part of a healthy breakfast. And if you enjoy an unhealthy breakfast, you can still listen to the show.

Of course, there will be articles, Retro Blue Jays posts and poems between episodes. If you haven’t yet, make sure you also LIKE DNJT’s Facebook page. It will put a smile of my face ๐Ÿ™‚

Grapefruit League action gets underway today as the Blue Jays take on the Pittsburgh Pirates in Dunedin. That puts a smile on my face as well. Enjoy the game!
