Grass in the concrete ballpark

January 26, 2015

Tell me
when grass in the ballpark became
such a hot topic
and when AstroTurf became an enemy of the fan base.

I remember
the lime green surface that expanded in the July heat
and produced the highest bounces.

It was present
when Bell dropped to his knees,
Candy booked the ticket to Atlanta,
and Joe sent the Phillies home.

And at some point,
the surface became a villain,
compared to a basketball court,
a deterrent for free agents.

So grass is the answer?
Snap the fingers and everything is fixed?

Grass has my support,
yet installation is tricky,
like a Koufax curveball.

So wait until 2018,
but don’t hold your breath.

Retro Blue Jays – Party in the streets…for the very first time

January 8, 2015

Posted by CatchTheTaste.

This coming season, the Blue Jays will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of the 1985 team.

Yes, it will actually be 30 years since the Jays captured their first-ever AL East title and made their first-ever playoff appearance in club history.

In honour of this occasion, here’s the opening to CTV’s national newscast from October 5, 1985 – the day the Jays clinched the division. Not surprisingly, they’re the lead story.

As you’ll see (or have seen), there is no footage from the actual game. It’s just fans celebrating on downtown streets; celebrating a major baseball victory for the very first time.

Best part of the clip: That stellar Blue Jays cap umbrella. Jays Shop needs to get some of those on the shelves.
